Competence Development among Adult Educators

Nordic conference in Malmö, Sweden
March 1-2, 2010

Please reserve the conference dates in your schedule already now!
Further details to come during December 2000.

Currently much attention is being paid, on the one hand, to the creation of opportunity structures for adults to engage in intentional learning and, on the other hand, to the professionalisation of those making intentional learning opportunities a reality. The subject is topical in EU and has been the theme in ASEM www.dpu.dk/asem and ESREA www.esrea.org conferences in autumn 2009.

The Nordic Council of Ministers strategy plan 2008 - 2010 emphasises the importance of raising the quality of teacher training and strives for better cooperation among the sectors of education, research and economy. The Nordic Network for Adult Learning (NVL) considers the professionalisation of adult educators as a crucial issue within the given priorities; and during the past two years has been intensively involved in the debate on the new roles of adult educators and the challenges this pose to further education programmes.

The aim of this conference is to encourage the discussion about the professionalisation of adult educators at a Nordic level, and at the same time create a mutual inspiring meeting between Nordic and European ideas in this field. The conference will provide networking possibilities and strengthen the Nordic cooperation in the field of further training of adult educators.

Key-note speeches will be followed by plenum discussions and will provide an opportunity to debate the current tendencies and developments in the field of professionalisation of adult educators.

Round-table discussions and workshops will be closely linked to the key-note themes; and will provide a deeper insight into the topics like the new roles of adult educators and the challenges they bring to training programmes, opportunities for further training, innovative character and relevance of the further training programmes. These sessions will be chaired by experts in the field. Examples from practice and project results will be the bases for the discussion.

The conference language will be Scandinavian and English.
